REVIEW #80: Black Knight (Goff's Brewery)

Pours red-tinted black with a bubbly light brown head. The smell is that of a classic porter with lots of rye bread, muscovado sugar and a subtle hint of smoke. Medium bodied with rich plum and blackberry notes, biscuity malt and cream. A woody, grainy finish with slight touch of alcohol burn. Nicely done.

Goff's Brewery is sited in Winchcombe in the heart of the Cotswolds. I managed to pick this one up from Hayles Fruit Farm just down the road from the brewery itself. They also do an excellent range of their own single variety apple juices. In 2006 the draught Black Knight won silver in its category at the GBBF and Bronze for Supreme Winter Champion Beer of Britain. It has only been available in bottled form from 2010.
